The Watchmaker’s Song

Wednesday, November 1, 11:30a-1:30p

First Street Studio - 701 Tillery St, Suite A7B

Registration Form here

The Watchmaker’s Song is an immersive, culturally inclusive re-imagining of The Nutcracker, now in its 6th year of production.

We are looking for dancers with strong theatrical presence, the style is contemporary ballet with jazz influence. A few roles are en pointe but most are not - as always, we welcome dancers of all training backgrounds!

Casting Workshop will consist of a two combinations in flat shoes, one en pointe, and Meisner theatre exercises.

All positions paid. Please feel free to audition even if you are not available for all performances - we usually double cast to accommodate schedules.

Performances:

December 1-2, Comfort, Texas

December 7-10, 14-16, Austin, texas

Why is the Watchmaker’s Song different?

Act 1 is set to the Duke Ellington/Billy Strayhorn reinterpretation of the Tchaikovsky score - it’s a party! We are up close with the audience on the porch of the historic Neill Cochran House Museum.

In Act 2, instead of ballet dancers dancing in the style of world dances, we invite ACTUAL REPRESENTATIVES of these global cultures to share their dance traditions.  In the past we have featured: Flamenco from Spain (Andalusia), Egyptian Belly Dance, Traditional Chinese Dance, American Tap Dance, Argentine Tango, Bollywood, Irish Step dance, and drag performance.

If you are a practitioner of a cultural dance tradition, and you are interested in participating we would love to hear from you! Please email us, addresses are below!
